I take on select freelance writing where the subject sits squarely inside my research, not adjacent to it.
What I Cover
My freelance writing covers Japan’s businesses, politics, economy, and culture, read through the same lens as my research: institutional language, form, and cultural history. This isn’t “Cool Japan” content, and it isn’t a list of ten things to see in Kyoto. I’m interested in what Japan’s institutions reveal about the country’s role among the world’s largest economies, particularly in its ties to Canada, France, the United States, and China.
Journalistic Ethics
Accuracy and sourcing discipline carry over from my research work into everything I write for clients or publications. I verify claims against primary sources rather than secondary aggregation, and I take confidentiality and attribution seriously, including advocating for other writers when their work is used without permission. I hold everything I write to the same standard of rigor as my published analysis.
